Three ways to stop service
| Action | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Skip | Excludes one specific date — the job runs normally on every other date. | The customer is on vacation this week. |
| Suspend | Pauses the job indefinitely — routes skip it until you resume it. | Service is on hold with no set return date. |
| Archive | Retires the job — removes it from routes and hides it from route building. | The customer is gone and the job is over. |
None of these delete anything. Archiving hides a record but never deletes its history — jobs (like customers and routes) are archived, not permanently deleted.
Skip a single visit
Skipping excludes one specific date without touching the rest of the schedule. It's done from the route and schedule views — the job returns on its next scheduled date automatically.
Remove from a route — or set an end date instead
Removing a job from a route (from the route page's Remove Job from Route dialog) offers a gentler alternative before the delete: "Set an end date instead?" Pick a date and click Set End Date — the job keeps appearing on the route until that date, then stops automatically, and is cleaned up from the route after 7 days. Use it for a customer who's cancelling at the end of the month but still wants their remaining visits.
The Remove Now button removes the job from the route and all future occurrences immediately. Either way the job itself still exists — this only changes its route schedule.
Suspend and resume a job
On the job's page, click Suspend and enter a reason. The job is paused indefinitely — routes skip it — until you click Resume on the same page.
Archive a job
- 1On the job's page, click Archive.
- 2The archive flow checks for unpaid invoices, removes the job from routes, and hides it from route building.
- 3The dialog requires typing the job name to confirm — a deliberate speed bump so a job isn't retired by accident.
- 4After archiving, the success toast has an Undo button if you change your mind on the spot.
Restore an archived job
- 1On the Jobs page, turn on the "Show archived jobs" toggle.
- 2Open the archived job.
- 3Click Unarchive.
Archiving never deletes history — the job's past visits, notes, and records are all still there when it's restored. If you're trying to add jobs to a route and the only ones available are archived, the route's Add Job to Route screen warns you and links to restore them (see build and optimize routes).
Frequently asked questions
Does archiving delete the job's history?
No — archiving never deletes history. The job is hidden and removed from routes, and everything comes back when you unarchive it from the Jobs page's "Show archived jobs" toggle.
What's the difference between suspending and archiving?
Suspend is a pause: the job stays visible and routes skip it until you click Resume. Archive retires the job — it's removed from routes, hidden from route building, and only reappears if you unarchive it.
How do I skip just one week of service?
Skip that date from the route or schedule views. The skip excludes only that specific date — the job runs normally on its next scheduled visit.
Can I permanently delete a job instead?
Jobs are archived, not permanently deleted. For permanent deletion, contact support at support@poolfounder.com.
