Transfer and move jobs

Move jobs to another technician or day — temporarily for one date or permanently onto a new weekly route — even while a route is being run.

Updated August 1, 2026

Moving work around

You can transfer jobs — or whole routes — between technicians, and move remaining stops to another day. Transfers come in two flavors: temporary (one date only) and permanent (the job moves onto the target route's weekly template). Routes that are already being run can be edited safely too — stops appear on and disappear from the technician's phone as you make changes.

Transfer jobs to another technician or day

  1. 1On the Route Schedule, hover a day cell and click the arrows icon button ("Transfer jobs to another technician") — this opens the Transfer Jobs page for that route and date. (Route pages have a Transfer button that opens the same page.)
  2. 2Pick the target technician and toggle This Date Only (temporary) or Permanent, then pick the target date (temporary) or day of the week (permanent).
  3. 3Select the jobs to move — the header shows a running count and a Select all / Deselect all link.
  4. 4Confirming opens a summary dialog. Review it and confirm the transfer.
  5. 5An optional "Go to route to optimize after transfer" checkbox opens the target route afterward so you can reorder its stops.

Once a technician is chosen, a collapsible target route preview shows that tech's route for the chosen day — its current job list with time at each stop — or a note that no route exists for this day yet and one will be created. Guardrails run as you select:

  • Jobs already on the target route are flagged in red with "Already on target route" and block the transfer until deselected.
  • On a permanent transfer, selected work orders and one-time additions trigger an amber notice that they "will only transfer for this date" — they aren't recurring, so only maintenance jobs on the route's weekly template can move permanently.

Temporary vs. permanent

Transfer typeWhat it does
Temporary ("This Date Only")Moves the selected jobs for one date only — they return to their normal route afterward. The weekly schedule is untouched.
PermanentMoves the jobs onto the target route's weekly template. The move takes effect the next time the target route starts.

On a permanent move, if the target route is being run right now, an extra checkbox — "Also add to today's route in progress" — appears in the confirmation dialog, checked by default. Leave it checked and the moved stops land on the technician's running route immediately; uncheck it and they first appear the next time that route is started (usually the next occurrence of that day).

Editing a route the technician is already running

No special steps are needed — edit the route normally, from the route page's Add Jobs, the job's route assignments, a work-order scheduling flow, or by dragging between routes on the Route Schedule. Live routes reconcile automatically:

  • Adding a job to a route being run right now puts the new stop on the technician's phone within seconds, if the job occurs that day.
  • Removing or excluding a job pulls its stop off the phone — unless the technician already completed, started, or skipped it. Stops the tech already worked are never touched.
  • One-time adds to a specific day behave the same way: they land on the running route for that day immediately.
  • Frequency and date changes reconcile the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Does a temporary transfer change the weekly schedule?

No. A temporary transfer moves the selected jobs for one date only — they return to their normal route afterward.

When does a permanent move take effect?

At the target route's next start. If the target route is being run at the time of the move, the confirmation dialog offers "Also add to today's route in progress" (checked by default) to put the moved stops on the running route immediately.

What happens to stops the technician already completed?

Nothing. Stops that were already completed, started, or skipped are never touched by route edits or transfers.
