Route Optimization Overhaul: Compact Day Territories and Schedule Stats

Pool Founder reworks Auto-Assign to build compact day territories, adds unique customer, service location, and job-type counts to Route Schedule, and shows estimated arrival and departure windows on every stop list.

July 14, 2026By Corey Adams

Tighter Routes and a Schedule You Can Read at a Glance

This release reworks how Pool Founder assigns your jobs to days and how you read the week. Auto-Assign now builds compact day territories instead of scattering stops across the calendar, Route Schedule summarizes each week in a row of counts, and every stop list shows an estimated arrival and departure window.

The goal is simple: nearby pools land on the same day, each technician works a tighter patch of the map, and you can see the shape of a week without opening every route one at a time.

Auto-Assign Builds Compact Day Territories

Open the Route Builder and click Auto-Assign. It reads every weekly, biweekly, and monthly job and places each one on a work day, clustering by neighborhood so pools that sit near each other stay on the same day.

The rewrite changes what "balanced" means. Instead of spreading jobs evenly by job count, Auto-Assign balances by workload, weighing the actual service time each stop takes against each technician's working hours. It only moves a stop to another day when a day is genuinely overloaded; below that line, geography decides, so a day fills with pools that are close together. When a technician has a home address on file, their route days anchor around where they start and develop into distinct territories instead of overlapping across town.

  • Preferred day and preferred technician pins are honored
  • Multi-visit jobs keep sensible spacing across the week
  • Jobs the builder can't confidently place are left unassigned for you to review

Auto-Assign decides which day a job lands on. To order the stops within a single day by drive time, use the Optimize button on that day, which sequences stops using Google Maps. Rebalance redistributes jobs that are already on routes.

Read a Week at a Glance on Route Schedule

The Quick Stats bar at the top of Route Schedule now summarizes the week you are viewing with four added counts, alongside the existing total stops, completed, active routes, and technicians tiles:

  • Unique Customers - how many distinct customers appear on the schedule that week
  • Service Locations - how many distinct pools and addresses are served
  • Maintenance - the count of recurring maintenance stops
  • Work Orders - the count of one-time work order stops

The counts are computed for the week you are viewing, so switching weeks updates them, and they stay visible whether or not you expand the inline job details for each day.

Estimated Arrival and Departure Windows on Every Stop

Stop cards now show an estimated window like Est. 9:14 – 9:41 AM, the predicted arrival and departure for that stop, in place of a lone time with a minutes tag. The window is chained from the route's start time, Google drive times, and the expected time on site, which uses each job's real service history when it has one and its configured minutes otherwise.

You will see these windows on the technician app's Stops tab for today and upcoming days, on the first stop of the Route tab, on expanded route cards in Field Operations, and on the stop cards in the Route Schedule detail view. Once a route is running, the estimates re-anchor to actual progress, so a stop finished late or early shifts every remaining window.

These are estimates for planning, not promised appointment windows. They need an internet connection plus a route start location or the technician's home address on file. Actual arrived and departed times always show, with or without an estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Auto-Assign, Rebalance, and Optimize?

Auto-Assign places unassigned jobs onto work days, clustering nearby pools onto the same day. Rebalance redistributes jobs that are already on routes. Optimize orders the stops within a single day by drive time using Google Maps. Auto-Assign and Rebalance decide which day a job belongs to; Optimize decides the order of stops within a day.

Where do the new schedule counts show up?

In the Quick Stats bar at the top of Route Schedule. Alongside total stops, completed, active routes, and technicians, you will see Unique Customers, Service Locations, Maintenance, and Work Orders for the week you are viewing.

Are the estimated arrival windows shown to customers?

No. The Est. windows appear on your technician app and dashboard to help plan the day. They are estimates for planning, not promised appointment windows, and they re-anchor to actual times as the route runs.

Will Auto-Assign move jobs I have already placed by hand?

Auto-Assign places jobs that are currently unassigned. To redistribute jobs that are already on routes, use Rebalance instead. Preferred day and preferred technician pins are honored, and anything the builder cannot confidently place is left unassigned for you to review.
