The entry price isn't the whole story
Let's start with the part most comparison pages skip: on sticker price, Markate is cheaper than Pool Founder. It's $49.95/month, or $45.95/month billed yearly, plus $5 per active employee. For a three-tech crew that's about $65 a month against our $99. If price is the only line on your scorecard, Markate wins, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
The real question is what the money buys. Markate is general home-services software built for every trade at once. We couldn't find a pool industry page on its site, or any water chemistry, LSI, dosing or route optimization. And the base plan is the opening bid: the customer portal, online booking, a lead form and a business number are $10/month add-ons, and the AI receptionist is $1 per call.
Every Markate fact on this page was checked against markate.com (the pricing page and product pages) on October 9, 2026. Earlier versions of this page quoted $39.95/month on yearly billing; Markate now lists $45.95. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.

Markate's plan is $49.95/month, or $45.95/month billed yearly ($551.40 a year), plus $5 per active employee per month. There's a 14-day trial and free migration. Around that base sits a menu of $10/month add-ons, including the customer portal, online booking, a lead form and a business number. The API is $50/month, drip texts are 10 cents each, and Kate, the AI receptionist, is $1 per call.

The Markate columns count each tech as one active employee at $5; the solo range depends on whether the owner counts. Add-on prices are monthly. Kate's calls are on top: 100 answered calls a month is another $100.
Markate is cheaper at every size on this table once you're past solo, even with the add-ons, and we'd rather show you that than have you find it yourself. What no row buys: water-test logging, LSI, dosing recommendations or route optimization. We couldn't find any of them on Markate's site.
Pool Founder has one number per team size: $49 for one tech, $99 for up to three, $179 for up to six, $249 for up to ten. Office staff are free. Every software feature is on every plan, including the customer portal and AI phone answering. The only extra is an optional $25/month business line if you want your own published number and two-way texting. The price you sign up at is the price you keep.
What 'no pool DNA' means in practice
Chemistry is the service record
When a customer says you let their pool go green, your readings are the proof you did the job. Pool Founder logs readings at every stop and calculates LSI automatically. It recommends doses in your own chemical products, scaled to pool volume, with a calculator that works offline and uses no AI. Techs can photograph a test strip and let the app fill in the readings, or talk through the stop and let it fill the checklist, readings and chemicals. On Markate, that layer of the business would live in generic checklists and notes.
Problems surface on their own
After each visit, Pool Founder checks for depleted sanitizer, filter pressure more than 10 psi over baseline, abnormal chemical usage and unusual time on the job, and puts it all in one alert queue. Chemicals and parts carry costs and low-stock alerts, and you can connect a Heritage Pool Supply account and order inside the app. We found no inventory on Markate's site.
Routes are the profit margin
We couldn't find route optimization named on Markate's site. On a twenty-stop pool route, sequencing by hand is a daily tax on windshield time. Pool Founder optimizes with traffic-aware Google routing on every plan, lets techs re-optimize the rest of the day from where they are, and prices new leads with Route Fit: a suggested rate built from real drive time, time on site and chemical cost, plus the route and day where the pool fits best.
AI phone answering: $1 a call vs included
Markate's AI is real. Kate, the AI receptionist, answers for $1 per call, and Markate also sells an AI estimator and video estimates. For a light call volume, $1 a call is cheap.
Pool Founder's phone assistant is included on every plan, at any call volume. It answers 24/7 through free call forwarding from your existing number (or on the optional $25 line), recognizes customers by caller ID, tells them their next visit, balance and recent visits, takes down new leads, and flags urgent messages, with a transcript of every call. It doesn't book, quote or transfer calls, and it only speaks English.
George, the assistant in the dashboard, does office work. Ask him to import a spreadsheet, rebuild routes when a tech changes days, or build a quote from photos, and he prepares the change on an approval card for you to approve, with 15 minutes to undo. He never moves money.
Billing that matches how pool companies charge
Pool billing is its own animal. Pool Founder handles flat monthly rates that keep billing through a rainout, per-visit billing, recurring line items like a chem fee, chemical billing, and consolidated invoices that put an HOA's pools on one bill. Customers pay by card, ACH or Zelle. Autopay retries a failed charge after 24 hours, 72 hours and 7 days, and payment reminders go out on the schedule you pick. Techs with permission invoice and charge from the truck.
Card fees run at Stripe's standard rates, and you decide per invoice, job or service whether to pass the fee through. It applies to credit cards only, is capped at 3% (2% in Colorado and Oklahoma), and switches off by itself in states that don't allow it. Markate processes payments through Square; it doesn't publish the rates.
Both connect to QuickBooks Online; Pool Founder's sync runs both ways. Markate also integrates with QuickBooks Payroll. Pool Founder calculates tech pay (per stop, hourly or commission, with scorecards) and exports a payroll file for ADP or Gusto, but it doesn't run payroll.
Who builds it
Markate's roadmap serves every home-service trade at once, so a request for water-chemistry fields competes with every other industry's wish list. Pool Founder's whole roadmap is pool companies. It's founder-owned: Corey is a working pool tech who runs Peachy Pool Service, and he built it with his co-founder Zach.

What Markate genuinely does well
Credit in full. Markate is cheaper on sticker price at almost every team size. It offers a website service and online booking, neither of which Pool Founder includes in the plan (our website service is a separate paid add-on, and we have no customer booking page). It advertises an offline mobile app. It integrates with QuickBooks Payroll, and it has an AI estimator and video estimates. Migration is free, and you only buy the add-ons you use.
If you run a home-services business that doesn't test water, Markate is a good deal and you should take it. If you run pools, take both trials and run a real route on each.
