GorillaDesk is good, long-running software. It gives you unlimited office users on every plan, it charges no setup fee, and it migrates your data for free. If pools are one of several trades you run, it may well be the right call.
The real difference is birthplace. GorillaDesk grew up in pest control and serves pool companies alongside pest, lawn and cleaning businesses. Pool Founder was built by a working pool tech for one trade. You'll feel that in two places: the per-route bill as your team grows, and what 'chemical data' turns out to mean when the chemical is chlorine, not pesticide.
Every GorillaDesk fact on this page was checked against gorilladesk.com (the pricing page and the pool service page) on October 9, 2026. Two things on their pricing page aren't clear, and we say so where they come up: the Growth tier price, and what AI Agents cost. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.
Two birthplaces
GorillaDesk's pool page talks about recurring invoices, a customer portal, 'chemical data' and material-use reports. That chemical tracking comes from pest control, where the job is logging what you applied. A product that serves several trades invests where they overlap: scheduling, invoicing, routing, support. GorillaDesk does those well.
Pool Founder is founder-owned. Corey is a working pool tech who runs Peachy Pool Service, and he built it with his co-founder Zach for one trade. The last mile that only pool companies need, water balance and pool-shaped billing, is where the two products split. That's what the rest of this page is about.
Pricing: a route is a technician
GorillaDesk prices per route (they call it a 'schedule'), and a route is one technician's day. Basic is $49/month and caps route optimization at about 25 stops. Pro is $99/month and adds the customer portal, QuickBooks Online, GPS tracking, unlimited routing and the API. Growth is listed at $149/month, but the sign-up links on the same page carry a $299 price, so confirm it with GorillaDesk before you budget. Office users are unlimited. The page doesn't state what each additional route costs, so the math below assumes each technician's route is billed at the tier price.

If each route is billed at the Pro rate, a three-tech company pays GorillaDesk $297/month, $2,376 a year more than Pool Founder's $99 Team plan. Even with our optional $25/month business line added, Pool Founder is $124.
Texting is priced separately on GorillaDesk: $5/month plus credits at $50 per 1,000 messages. Pool Founder has no per-message fees. On-the-way and invoice-ready texts work on every plan; two-way texting, visit reminders and review requests need the optional $25/month business line. Every other software feature is on every plan, office staff are free, and the price you sign up at is the price you keep.
Pool-native vs pool-compatible
Pool work asks a different question from pest control. Not 'what did you apply,' but 'what did the water test at, and what brings it back to balance.' On October 9, 2026 we couldn't find a water-test logging workflow, LSI, or dosing on GorillaDesk's site. You can record that chlorine went in; we didn't see a way for the software to tell you how much.
Pool Founder is built around that question, on the $49 plan:
- Readings at every stop with automatic LSI and "higher than usual" flags.
- Dosing recommendations in your own chemical products, scaled to the pool's volume. The calculator runs on the phone, works offline, and uses no AI.
- Test-strip scanning: photograph the strip and the app fills in the readings.
- Fill out by voice: the tech talks through the stop and the app fills the checklist, readings, chemicals and notes.
- Automatic alerts for depleted sanitizer, filter pressure 10 psi over baseline, and abnormal chemical usage.
- Service reports emailed after every visit with the chemistry and full-size photos.
We couldn't find photo service reports or an offline mode on GorillaDesk's site either. Pool Founder's tech app works without a signal for the visit itself (checklists, photos, readings, dosing) and syncs when you're back in range. Starting or finishing a route still needs a connection.
AI: included vs priced separately
GorillaDesk sells AI Agents, and earlier in 2026 their materials described agents that answer calls, texts and web chat and can book jobs. As of October 9, 2026 the pricing page doesn't list what the agents cost, so ask before you count on them.
Pool Founder's AI is part of every plan, including the $49 one. The phone assistant answers 24/7 through free call forwarding from your existing number (or on the optional $25 line). It recognizes customers by caller ID, tells them their next visit, balance and recent visits, takes down new leads, and flags urgent messages, with a transcript of every call. It doesn't book, quote or transfer calls, and it only speaks English.
George, the assistant in the dashboard, does the office work. Ask him to import a spreadsheet, rebuild routes when a tech changes days, or build a quote from photos, and he prepares the change on an approval card for you to approve, with 15 minutes to undo. He never moves money.
Billing and the back office
GorillaDesk invoices well and supports recurring invoices. What a pool-only product adds on top is pool-shaped billing: flat monthly rates that keep billing through a rainout, per-visit billing, chemical billing, and consolidated invoices that put an HOA's pools on one bill. Customers pay by card, ACH or Zelle, and autopay retries a failed charge after 24 hours, 72 hours and 7 days.
You decide per invoice, job or service whether to pass the card fee through. It applies to credit cards only, is capped at 3% (2% in Colorado and Oklahoma), and switches off by itself in states that don't allow it. Techs with permission invoice and charge from the truck. QuickBooks Online syncs both ways.
Behind that: tech pay per stop, hourly or commission with scorecards and a payroll export for ADP or Gusto, profitability by route and tech, and Route Fit, which suggests a price for a new lead from real drive time and labor and shows which route and day it fits.
What GorillaDesk genuinely does well
Plenty. Unlimited office users on every tier. Online booking for your customers, which Pool Founder doesn't offer. Zapier and an open API on Pro, where Pool Founder has a small API (leads, open invoices, customers), no Zapier app and no webhooks. Multi-branch tools on Growth. No setup fee and free migration, which we match with free setup help.
If you run pest control, lawn care or cleaning alongside pools, GorillaDesk is probably the right call: one system beats two. And if you're solo and Basic fits, it's a $49 tie.
